Thank God For Joe Biden

With all that’s riding on the 2022 election, and the reported trend away from a possible Republican landslide to a more competitive battle for Congress, why are Democrats organizing a circular firing squad so they can shoot themselves in the collective foot?

Between the corrupt U.S. Supreme Court’s ending of women’s reproductive rights, the stunning evidence presented by the Jan. 6 Committee pointing to the historic treason of Trump and the GOP, the Republicans’ protection of the gun industry over school children, the party’s practice of voting against measures popular with the American people, its support of white nationalists and domestic terrorists, and its general refusal to govern on any number of key issues, the Democrats have plenty of ammo to take aim at their opponents.

Instead, some Progressives in the party prefer to bitch and moan and level false attacks against the president, who happens to be from their own party. These selfish morons, out-out-touch with reality, aren’t just willing to sacrifice the good for the perfect, but their own country in pursuit of their ideological goals and their personal political success.

Biden is weak. Biden doesn’t show enough urgency. Biden doesn’t display enough fire. Biden hasn’t done enough. And on, and on, and on. I can understand the pundits and press who are desperately looking for likes and clicks to go that route. But elected members of the president’s own party?

The president has spoken out strongly on every issue facing our country. He’s not a great orator, but he doesn’t have to be. When you speak from your heart with genuine concern for your country and the people in it, plain talk is all you need to get your point across.

Look what’s he done with a razor-thin edge in the House and no margin for error in the Senate: an historic Covid package, a bipartisan infrastructure bill, a bipartisan gun bill, the turnaround of our economy, tremendous job growth, an excellent jobless rate of less than 4 percent, a successful vaccine program against a deadly pandemic, ending our endless war in Afghanistan, and reinvigorating our relationships with our NATO allies.

Not to mention all the good bills that have passed the House and are stalled in the Senate as an example of what could come if Democrats win enough elections.

For the life of me, how people can be hammering Biden and giving Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer a pass in all this is beyond me. What the hell does Schumer do down there all day?

When we were facing the very real crisis of a second term for Trump, it was Biden who stepped into the breach. It was Biden who was the overwhelming choice of his party – not progressives like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren. The truth is Biden was the only candidate with a real chance of beating Trump. Even Trump knew that.

It was Biden who decided that instead of being home playing with his grandchildren and his dogs he’d accept the double challenge of a mishandled pandemic that had killed hundreds of thousands of people and a devastated economy. And he’d try to solve this mess in the face of Republican obstructionism and sabotage intended to cause him to fail, no matter how much death and destruction it brought to our country.

Biden is the president. He’s not God. Like all his predecessors, he has very little control over inflation and high gas prices, no matter how many times Republicans lie to you and say that he does. And no matter how many times Democrats make reference to those issues while conveniently not telling you that either. All the better to make you believe they have a secret formula to save the day.

There’s talk that it would be better if Biden doesn’t run for reelection. He’s not a young man, and that might not be a bad idea, but this is no time to worry about that. The only concern should be the 2022 election.

Joe Biden is not a perfect man, but he was the perfect man for the job. If all he accomplishes is providing a bridge from the democracy-and-rule-of-law-threatening dumpster fire of the Trump administration to a path to some level of normalcy and progress in this country we will always be in his debt.

And if his critics can’t see that past their own stupidity and naked political ambition, well, I’d say that’s their problem, but it’s really our country’s problem. That’s how high the stakes are. That’s how important winning in November is. Winning is the only solution. There are no others. Just winning.

Democrats, it’s time to stop whining. Start fighting with the united urgency that this moment in history calls for. Biden isn’t the problem, and if you’re blaming him then it’s time for you to look in the mirror.

The real problem will be staring right back at you.
